JN 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.
Who is the word? What is the word? One thing we know, who ever it is was here since the beginning.
Lets read further and find out.
JN 1:3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
Whoever it is, he took part in creation. NOTHING happened without him.
JN 1:4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
His life was the light for everyone. If his life was the light for everyone, without it we must be in the dark.
JN 1:5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
It says the light shined in the darkness, but people didn't get it. Basically it means he showed himself to us but we didn't get it. How did he do this? Let' find out.
JN 1:10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.
He went so far as to come to this world, but he wasn't recognized by most.
JN 1:11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
He was rejected. We are his and still did not recognize him. Was this on purpose, did we not want to recognize him?
Who do you think this is talking about?
It is talking about Jesus.
But luckily it doesn't end there, which is good for us. Not everyone rejected him. Lets read on.
JN 1:12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
The ones that accepted him became children of God. They were not born that way, this was not thru natural biological means. It was a spiritual birth.
In other words: "They were born again".
That always sounds so religious. What does it mean?
Simple:
RO 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
