Jesus grew up as a person just like us. He went thru the same stuff that we do, so he understands us.
So what did he do besides that? He tried to teach people how to live.
Why do I say tried? Because most wouldn't listen.
Remind you of anything? Kind of sounds like its no different now then it was then. People still don't want to listen.
What does Jesus say about that?
MT 7:24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
He compares what he teaches to a house and its foundation. In other words what he is teaching is solid and we need to take it to heart. Are we taking it to heart? What are we doing? What are we building on?
Something else Jesus says:
MT 5:17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Most of what he taught doesn't seem to be a lot of fun. Its a lot more fun to live the way we want to then the way Jesus wants us to.
Here is an example of some of what he taught::
MT 6:19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
What does Jesus mean by that? Let's see below:
MT 6:24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
Another example: (TV really tries to make this one as it being normal and okay)
MT 5:27 "You have heard that it was said, `Do not commit adultery.' 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
We all know what he was telling us there: We are suppose to be faithful to our spouse.
The point I am making here, is not the two examples I picked. I could have picked others. I do like what Jesus said here.
Why did he say this? Every sin starts with a thought. That is why he asks us to keep our thoughts pure.
Jesus says this: "Don't go there".
The end result could be devastating, we know what all this leads to.
What is my point?
I am trying to get you into the Bible to learn what Jesus has to say and why.
These are just two examples of what he taught. There is no way we can cover everything right here right now. Please study the Bible there is a wealth of information in it.
